Drakeo The Ruler, whose actual name is Darrell Caldwell, was stabbed in the neck on Saturday night and died as a result.
He was 28 years old when he died, according to reports.
He was stabbed at the Once Upon A Time LA concert, according to TMZ and Fox News.
According to Stereogum.com, journalist Jeff Weiss, who has tracked Drakeo’s music career and legal problems for years, has confirmed Drakeo’s death.
Drakeo was one among dozens of billed acts at the all-day concert in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park on Saturday when he was attacked backstage during a scuffle.
According to TMZ, “he was backstage at 8:30 p.m. when a brawl broke out — and he was stabbed during the altercation… according to law enforcement sources.”
“We’re told the LAPD, California Highway Patrol, and the fire department came, and Drakeo was taken to the hospital — but numerous sources say he died from his injuries.”
The incident caused the event at Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park in Los Angeles to be canceled.
“The Once Upon A Time In LA Fest is finishing early,” the festival organizers stated simply on Instagram. All of the performances are now finished. Please take the next exit and travel east on MLK.”
Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, The Game, 50 Cent, and YG were among the acts set to play.
Drakeo had just returned to his normal life after being cleared of felony murder and attempted murder charges in the 2016 shooting death of a 24-year-old man, according to HipHopDX.
Los Angeles County prosecutors retried him on conspiracy charges.
